2/28/2018 0 Comments Robert Frank (His Photographs)Robert Frank was born November 9, 1924. He is currently 93 years old. Being born in Switzerland he moved to America for his photography career. He is most famous for his book "The Americans". The book consisted of 83 separate photographs from people across the country. His goal was to show the mood of people across and there show a sense of their lives in a photo. It took him over two years and he took over 28,000 photos. So 83 in the book seems like a lot but not compared to what he took. Thats why the book was so moving because the photos chosen for it had good passion and meaning behind them. I chose this artist because I really like the 1950's and 60's and that was the main time frame of his photos. I also think it is really important to preserve time cultural and thats why I respect him for his work.

Mrs. Hendrickson Social Change 2/27/18 Sugar Americans have a bad love affair with sugar. Our bodies need natural sugars to be used as carbs and energy, but added sugars such as High Fructose Corn Syrup are terrible for our bodies. According to Dr.Axe.com 8% of calorie intake should be from sugars, The average American consumes 21% of its calorie intake from sugar. That average people that do are 38% more likely to get a heart related disease(https://draxe.com/is-sugar-bad-for-you/). Added sugars are also bad for a fatty liver. Sugar intake puts more stress on America's livers than alcohol does. The negative effects on sugar are just ongoing, more risk for high blood pressure, diabetes and even 24 different kinds of cancer (https://draxe.com/is-sugar-bad-for-you/) . According to the “American Heart Association” it is dangerous and unhealthy to exceed over 50 grams of sugar a day(http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/) . To put it in prospective one bottle of soda has about 69 grams, already exceeding it by 19 grams just by one bottle. It wouldn't be too bad if it was in moderation but the average American consumes 22 tablespoons of added sugar a day (https://draxe.com/is-sugar-bad-for-you/) that is jaw dropping. There has been attempts to push for less sugary drinks. Sugar free drinks are becoming more and more popular. Companies like Gatorade are coming out with new products that have less sugar. One of the more popular movements was the “Got Milk” campaign in the early 2000s which was pushing for people drink natural milk instead of other unhealthy beverages. I think it is important for people limit their sugar intake simply because it is just a healthier lifestyle. I would like to see more people drinking water. Sugary soda drinks, coffee and other drinks are simply just unneeded and drastically change our sugar intake. I think it will be hard to change people that are always consuming soda drinks but I think if young people never get hooked on them then it will be easier to prevent. I hope that these photographs are just eye opening to people and to spread awareness of how much sugar we intake and hope for one day a healthier America. 2/23/2018 0 Comments Double ExThis was five separate photos over lapped to get a multiple exposure effect of having two of them in twice.
Describe:
The three photos of real motion are taken in my garage of my dog. They three techniques; motion blur, panning, and stop action are all shown. The photo of the truck showing panning, although this is not a real panning photo, the movement was generated in photo shop. I left the background color in that photo because the background ads to it but I made the background black and white in the others to eliminate distractions. Analyze: All of the action photos with my dog the principle is emphasis on the dog. The principles of the truck are balance and pastern with the background. Interpret: The mood of the three real action photos brings back a sense of childhood. Not necessary happiness because of the dark colors but the black and white brings back a sense of the past and a sense of childhood with a dog. The mood of the truck just gives a sense of outdoors, it's almost like you can smell the fresh air by looking at the photo. Evaluate: I would say all of the photos are a success in the sense that the goal was accomplished with each of the photos. Although they photos are not to interesting so if i could change one thing it is that i would change the location to outside with the dog. 1/25/2018 0 Comments 360 Pano1/5/2018 0 Comments ReflectionReflection
Describe: This is a photo taken inside the house of shelf stocking holders showing the reflection off the shiny brass. It shows the element of shape with the element of shape with the letters of “santa” Analyze: Emphas is the dominant principle in this photo. I took the photo from the side and up and close to the “S” so it has a strong emphasis. Also the other letters in the back direct your eye to the front and to the “S”. Interpret: The meaning of this photo is showing a seasonal holiday object. It has a happy warm feeling that goes along with it. Many people have good memories of christmas mornings and opening stockings, so this photo hits home and brings back the good feeling. Evaluation: Yes, I do think it is a successful piece of. Using leading lines and completing the task of showing reflection. I was to do anything differently I would not crop it as low as it is right now. 1/4/2018 0 Comments ShadowShadow
Describe: This is a photo taken on a lake towards land at cattails and old tress casting down their shadows onto the frozen snow covered lake. This photo shows space along with line. The shadow lines are directing your eye up towards the trees and cat tails. The photo also shows space with the clear unclouded sky. Analyze: I would say that the dominant principle of art is shared between emphasis and balance. The emphasis of the photo is the sun. All the light is coming from the one area and the source of the shadows. Also it shows balance with about the same amount of space with snow to sky ratio. I was able to apply the balance by cropping the photo to be so. With the sun being the emphasis I was also able to crop the photo so the sun is rule of thirds. Interpret: The meaning of the photo is to show a good example of shadow photography. The mood gives a feeling as if the viewer is actually outside looking towards the sun and the tress shadows coming towards them. With the black and white with the snow it really gives a sense of being cold. Evaluation: In my opinion the Photo is successful. It is a nice outdoor photo in a location most people aren't able to get to. The photo was taken in the cold temperature show it has heart and meaning to it as well as showing shadows. To make it better I could have taken the photo from the other direction only showing the shadows. |
